    Questions about the search builder

    How do I find candidates on LinkedIn without paying for Recruiter?

    Copy the LinkedIn search into the search bar on LinkedIn, choose People, and set Locations to the area you hire in. A free account can run it, within LinkedIn’s monthly limit on people searches. The Google and Bing searches find public LinkedIn profiles too.

    What is a Boolean search, in plain words?

    A search that says how words combine. OR means any of these words, AND means this word as well, and quotation marks keep a phrase together. "CNC Machinist" OR "CNC Operator" finds people with either title.

    Why does my LinkedIn search show zero results, or thousands?

    Every word joined with AND shrinks the results, and one broad title on its own brings in almost everyone. Run the search, then press Too many or Too few under it: the tool changes the search for you and says what it changed.

    Can I search LinkedIn profiles through Google?

    Yes. The Google and Bing searches look only at public LinkedIn profile pages, so they work without a LinkedIn login. They see only what people chose to make public, so they find fewer people than LinkedIn itself.

    Is this fair to candidates?

    The tool leaves out wording that points to age, gender or national origin, and tells you each thing it left out and why. It never runs a search for you, never sees who you find, and does not screen, score or rank anyone.

    Do I need to give my email?

    With no email, the tool reads your ad and shows how many job titles and skills it found, with the fair hiring check. To see the searches, confirm your work email once: we send one link, and there is no password.
